What Child Is This is a popular Christmas Carol. This carol’s melody is from the 16th century song “Greensleeves.” In 1865 the English poet and lay theologian William Chatterton Dix wrote a Christmas poem entitled The Manger Throne and a few years later Sir John Stainer merged 3 verses of Dix’s lyrics and “Greensleeves” to produce “What Child Is This.” One of my students’ favorites! One verse alternates between pizzicato and arco. In the middle of this arrangement you will find a nod to Carol of the Bells. I’m sure you will love this arrangement!
-The piece can also be played as a duet or trio. The duet or trio should include the Violin Level 3-4 part as it provides the melody line.
-The 4 Part Violin Arrangement includes violin Level 7+, Level 5-6, Level 3-4, Level 1-2, piano accompaniment and score.
-A REHEARSAL TRACK with 4 Part Violin and Piano Accompaniment is available for purchase on the SHOP page, CHRISTMAS, WHAT CHILD IS THIS, FOUR PART ARRANGEMENT. The Rehearsal Track includes the piano part and all four violin parts playing at the same time. This is an exciting addition to practice with or use in a teacher’s studio.
-An individual REHEARSAL TRACK (Level 7+, 5-6, 3-4 and 1-2) is available for purchase on the SHOP page, CHRISTMAS, WHAT CHILD IS THIS, FOUR PART ARRANGEMENT. The Individual Rehearsal Tracks include the piano part and one violin playing. For example, if you are purchasing Rehearsal Track Level 7+ , you will hear the piano accompaniment and Level 7+ violin playing together. This is an exciting addition to practice with or use in a teacher’s studio.
–A MINUS TRACK with piano accompaniment is available and can be purchased separately. The Minus Track includes the piano part and additional instrumentation to enhance the accompaniment. This is an exciting addition to practice with or use in a teacher’s studio. The Minus Track could be used in place of an accompanist and will enhance any performance.
-A SOLO version with piano accompaniment (for Advanced, Advanced Intermediate and Intermediate players) is available on the SHOP page, CHRISTMAS, WHAT CHILD IS THIS, SOLO.
